Conrad Walden is a character and the narrator in in The Cat in the Hat series of books. He is shown with his little sister, Sally and in the movie he is the son of Joan Walden. In the books from The Cat in the Hat's Learning Library, he was given the name Dave or Dick, then it was later changed to Conrad, which is kept in the PlayStation/GameBoy Advance game by NewKidCo. In the 2003 film The Cat in the Hat, he is portrayed by Spencer Breslin.

In the original book, the 1971 TV special, and The Cat in the Hat Comes Back, he is portrayed as a regular and well behaved kid. In the live action film, however, he is a destructive, rebellious, and misbehaved twelve-year-old. As a running gag, the Cat constantly calls him names other than Conrad.

Physical Appearance[]

Conrad had a tight, slightly wrinkled face, and slick brown hair. He usually wore a hat and a variety of dark coats, always buttoned up. They ranged from dark brown, to a dark green color. He also usually wore black gloves on his hand. He also usually wore black shoes, black shorts or pants and a blue, red or white shirt.

Trivia[]

  • Since the first The Cat in the Hat was illustrated, his name wasn't revealed in the book because he's the narrator or in the cartoon because the credits don't list the characters' names, however, he was given the name Conrad in the 2003 live-action film.
  • Some sources give his name as “Dick” before the live action film.
  • In The Cat in the Hat's Learning Library Books, he was given the name "Dick" before the name was later changed to Conrad.
  • He is absent and replaced by Nick (who is Sally’s best friend and neighbor) in The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!, however, he still appears in The Cat in the Hat Comes Back.
