The Once-ler's Mother is the greedy and pessimistic mother of the Once-ler in the 2012 film adaption of The Lorax. She dubs her most successful son, Once-ler, as her favorite up to the point his business collapses.
Description[]
Once-ler's mother is a cruel, manipulative, mean, and uncaring mother that uses her son as a tool. She, alongside the rest of the Once-ler’s family, taunted him for his ambitions when he initially left in search for Truffula Valley. Despite this, once he found steady success, she became supportive of his business. When Thneed, Inc. inevitably failed with the last tree chopped down, she berates her son, showing that her support of him was manipulative and transactional.
Appearance[]
She wears black glasses, a red bow, gray eye liner, and has blonde, puffy hair. She is seen wearing a dead animal as a scarf around her neck. She also wears blue knee-high leather boots, a purple polka dot shirt, and a denim dress.
In The Lorax[]
She went with her family to help the Once-ler make thneeds. It was her and the rest of the family that persuaded him to chop trees down rather than harvest their tufts. She was proud of him only when he became greedy and self-righteous, but when the Thneed factory closed because of the lack of trees, she disowned him and told Brett that he was now her favorite child. She then left the Once-ler to be a hermit.
Relationships[]
- Once-ler -She treats him very badly. She had told him that he would fail in his life for untold reasons. When his business fails, she promotes Brett to her favorite child.
- Brett and Chet - The mother seems to treat them both nice usually. She promoted the former to her favorite child, when the Once-ler failed.
- Aunt Grizelda - They're not seen interacting that much but it's presumed that they have a swell relationship.
- Uncle Ubb - Like the Once-ler, she treats Uncle Ubb like a tool rather than family as she is seen walking on him when she gets out of the RV, the only difference is that she doesn't treat him as badly as the Once-ler.
